"Your business should be your passion, and you’re not doing it just to pursue money. Money will ensue your passion. Your passion is what will sustain you through the highs and importantly the lows (and there will be many lows) of creating a business; passion and your beliefs will keep you going through the long haul. Passion will also keep you authentic and others will feel the energy of this authenticity; it will also help you stay true to who you are."
When did you start your business?
I started my first business in 1998 and since then I have continued to change and evolve always growing something new with my latest business launch in July 2023.
What was the inspiration behind your work/business?
My desire to learn is strongly correlated with my desire to share and teach my learnings with others. I’m very relational and community orientated, and witnessing the personal growth in others and co-journeying with them I too grow. This inspires me to continue – to never stop creating workshops and trainings that inspire others to b more themselves.
What are you most excited about in your work/business?
Tapping into the abundant and infinite source of creativity that continues to present itself as I develop new workshops. I can come across one word for e.g that can spur a series of thoughts that generate into creative activities that I can’t wait to share or that one word can become the catalyst for a fantastic exchange in a training.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your work/business?
As things unfold in front of me, it can be challenging to know how to engage with a market that is new to me.Currently I’m working in a therapeutic field through a business that I started in July 2023 called, Brainspotting Training Hub. And whilst I knew both my creative and expressive arts market and my therapeutic client market very well, approaching other psychologist, psychotherapists, social workers etc was novel. Learning about them, what they need may from me, and how they want to engage with me has been a challenge, but not one that I walk away from - because I love to build community.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a work/business?
Your business should be your passion, and you’re not doing it just to pursue money. Money will ensue your passion. Your passion is what will sustain you through the highs and importantly the lows (and there will be many lows) of creating a business; passion and your beliefs will keep you going through the long haul. Passion will also keep you authentic and others will feel the energy of this authenticity; it will also help you stay true to who you are. Always been kind to your clients because clients will always prevail and are worth more than the dollars you are saving in being right. So my guidance to you is about creating authentic community and connection and let your passion and love of what you are doing and offering shine through – don’t be shy about that. And when at times you feel like nothing is happening just hang loose a bit. Pause those naysaying thoughts and reflect back and see how far you have come and keep going.Your heart and mind need to be open and receptive to what’s trying to grab your attention – that ‘thing’ that is knocking at your door saying ‘this way’. You will never hear these words if you feel you are failing or losing belief in what you do. Keep your vibration high.
Why did you enter the Women Changing the World Awards?
I was nominated, which was a beautiful surprise. And I wanted to participate with other women who are doing amazing things on the planet. If we step up together then as a group we build a stronger platform for other women to step up too. Women need to see and hear women’s stories of success. We have limited our personal power by re -designing ourselves to succeed the way men do. We have squashed what our uniqueness brings and disavowed the difference we can bring and in doing so have mal nourished our spirit.
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
Reading the other nominees’ stories and being inspired by all the beautiful things that are happening around the planet through the heart space of women. These stories bring us into alignment with what we are called to do and in the way we are called to do it and hearing about other women encourages us – that we are not alone.
What surprised you most about the awards?
The buzz it created within my community that I was nominated, and how many people wanted to support me and show their support for me. It awakened a level of camaraderie and even a permission for them to speak out and show their support.
How did the awards help you in your work/business?
For a little while, after winning People’s Choice, people continued to celebrate with me and were sharing my celebration with other people. This grew my community - people became more aware of me as a result of that. But it was me that heralded the change – that experience of others support and feedback that I would not have otherwise received – that change within me – gave me an insight of who I belong with and how we can all support each other to grow.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about entering the awards?
Just do it. What have you got to lose. You’ll be in good company, you’ll be proud of yourself for participating with other people globally, and you may make new friends.
What has been the best thing about starting your own work/business?
I get to create and play every single day, in everything that I do.
What’s happening next in your work/business?
I’m traveling more internationally to run trainings, and this is exciting as I get to experience different cultures, learn more about building communities internationally, and having more fun and creativity (and noticing how small the world really is).
What are your big plans for the future?
My second book - I’m currently working on this. And I’m super excited because writing is another form of creative exploration – using words in ways to deepen my own understanding of what it is that I am seeking to birth between the covers!
